What is the difference between marriage and a civil partnership? There is no legal difference between the two as far as rights, assets, next of kin, pension benefits etc but you cannot used the legal status of married if you are not, marriages have marriage certificates and you cannot dissolve a civil partnership under grounds of adultery unlike marriage.
