Putting a Pension In Trust on Death

So be careful when leaving pensions to anyone other than your spouse/civil partner e.g.  children.


On death your pension fund may pass to your spouse, partner or dependents.  What if your partner remarries?  What if your partner subsequently bequeaths all wealth outside your bloodline.  There are many reasons why people put their pension fund in trust.  It may be to protect bloodline children, it may be to protect from other relationship breakdowns.  You may be able to put your pension in trust on death using a 'bypass' trust, usually called a spousal bypass trust.  There are plus and minus points to putting your pension in trust on death.
