Nil Rate Band Without a Will

Alistair Darling made it so if you die without using up all of your nil rate band you could transfer the remaining to your spouse or civil partner. Now, if you were to die without a will then the law takes over and distributes your estate according to intestacy laws and may use some or all of your nil rate band. This means that it might not be shared with your spouse or civil partner.
