Green Homes Grants Explained

The government set up the Green Homes Grant scheme for homeowners and landlords to increase the uptake of domestic energy efficiency measures and indirectly boost the economy in this growing sector.

Grants are available

  • Up to £5,000 for landlords and homeowners
  • Up to £10,000 if you or a member of the household are on benefits.

Grants are offered based initial upon: 

  • Primary Improvement Measures – such as insulation of walls, lofts, floors, roof and flat roof as well as lower carbon heating sources such as air source, ground source, solar and biomass.

If you secure a primary measures grant, you many then be eligible for

  • Secondary Measures – such as insulated doors, double and triple glazed windows, heating control thermostats, water tank insulation and general heating/power controls.  Any secondary grant cannot be larger than your primary grant.

The grants are offered in the form of a vouchers that must be used with TrustMark approved tradespeople with you able to choose from accredited installers in your area and you can check what may be available to you and apply for a grant at https://www.simpleenergyadvice.org.uk/

The scheme is available now until 31 March 2021 and offers an excellent way to enhance your property, adding value and also the opportunity to ensure tenants have a healthier living environment, lower carbon emissions as well as future proofing homes so that they are in line with stricter energy performance requirements that may be required in the future.
