Means Test - What is means test?
If you need care within a care home, be it for residential, social or nursing care, you will have to undergo a financial assessment (means test) which has a set of rules for testing your means and deciding whether or not you qualify for assistance from the local authority.
If you need care at home you could be asked to pay towards the cost if the local authority considers you can afford it. There are no fixed rules for working out how much you should contribute because all local authorities operate different means test systems.
What is means tested?
Some state benefits are taken into account when carrying out a means testing for assessing your income for care and whether you should contribute towards it and some of them are not.
What Will You Pay?
This will be decided after the capital and income assessment.
