Care Fees Allowance - Personal Expenses Allowance PEA ('Minimum Income Amount' in Wales)

The personal expenses allowance is the minimum income amount that individuals are allowed to keep when they are in social care to pay for the following:

  • Personal items
  • Newspapers
  • Treats
  • Toiletries

This is technically deducted from any assessed income.

Care Fees Personal Expenses Allowances by Country:

  • England £30.15 per week
  • Northern Ireland £30.15 per week
  • Scotland £34.50 per week
  • Wales £43.90 per week (now called the ‘Minimum income amount' in Wales)

Excess income will be used to pay towards your care fees.
