Scotland Homebuying 16-year Low

by Ashley Clark, Director

According to the Council of Mortgage Lenders, house purchases in Scotland fell to their lowest level in 16 years, during 2009.

Whilst the number of first time buyers remained at around the same levels as in 2008, the value of mortgages and the number of home movers increased significantly.

The general economic conditions, a period of sustained poor weather and the end of the Stamp Duty reduction have all been sighted as potential causes.
