Compulsory Pensions?

Published / Last Updated on 21/06/2002

In an interview with the Financial Times, Alan Pickering, conducting the pensions 'Simplification review' ordered by Whitehall, has suggested that he would recommend that employees are forced to join their company's pension scheme.

Many of you will be aware that we have been predicting this for years.  There is a savings gap and people do need to save to avoid retiring in poverty.

This, we believe, is why the Government forced employers with 5 or more employers to comply with Stakeholder laws last year i.e.  virtually every employer now has a scheme in place although there is a distinct lack of people joing the schemes.

The infrastructure is now there it is now a case of using it.
