Average New Home Price Doubled

Published / Last Updated on 04/07/2002

According to a survey from the Halifax, the average price of a new home is now around £153,000. 10 years ago, the average new home would have cost you just £70,000!  The price increase can in some way be blamed on the scarcity of new properties, creating greater demand and pushing prices up.  The building of new homes has decreased and, if it continues at the same rate, Halifax predict a shortfall of 400,000 homes.  Demand has become greater in areas such as London and the South West of England.  However, as more and more people move away from those areas because of cost, we have seen properties in Scotland, the North and the Midlands become more desirable.Search the archive for other house price increase stories.
