Following a report based on the findings of European financial companies, a new "European" version of Stakeholder pensions could soon be introduced. The move would allow people planning for retirement to choose a purely UK based Stakeholder pension, or one that met EU-wide standards, terms and charges.
The European Financial Services Round Table chairman (who is also the chairman of the CGNU group) said that "Europe's politicians must create a single market in pensions that will increase consumer choice, reduce costs, encourage take up an go some way to avert the pensions disaster that Europe is facing".
