Free Care Goes Ahead

Published / Last Updated on 04/07/2002

People who need long term care in Scotland will now receive all or the majority of it for free, following the implementation of controversial proposals, earlier this week.  People needing care will now receive £145 per week towards the costs of personal care and £65 per week towards the costs of nursing care.  Anyone needing care will be given the money, regardless of their financial standing.  Even though there may still be a shortfall, Scotland has gone out on its own to provide these payments and there is pressure on England and Wales to follow suit.

Scotland's local authorities are now looking to make changes so there is a standard approach to charging for other care services that are still means tested.  Will I lose my home if I need care when I am older?  What is Long term care?  To find out the anwers to these questions and more visit Care Fees Adviser.com.
