Are You 'Sitting' On A Fortune?

Published / Last Updated on 06/06/2002

Royal London have released their British Savings report claiming that the British public are literally 'sitting' on a fortune.  The report revealed that if all of the money that fell between chair cushions was added to that in piggy banks, bottles and jars, it would amount to £40 for each household. That's around £1bn!

From 963 respondents to a survey conducted by Royal London, almost half had not saved or invested in the last six months with the majority being women.  For the people that didn't save almost 30% preferred to gamble their money and had no idea what would be in their pension pot when they retired.

The results give increasing concern that people are not giving due consideration to their finances and will be taking pot luck in retirement.
