Halifax And Nationwide Fisticuffs!

Published / Last Updated on 10/03/2002

Following the news of £90m refunds for disadvantaged borrowers, the story has become bitter sweet.  For a building society where the owners are the savers, any money to be found and paid out will obviously have to come from somewhere.  Apparently, Halifax commented that it will be Nationwide savers meeting the costs through lower shares of profits. Nationwide said, through their senior press officer Jennifer Stoddart, "the money is foregone profit and will have no impact on any member of Nationwide". Apparently, all refunds will be paid out by June 2002 and borrowers and savers alike, seem happy.  According to Nationwide they have only received 100 complaints about the matter.
