Demutualisation News _ Nationwide Slated

Published / Last Updated on 25/04/2002

"Professional carpetbagger", Andrew Muir, has claimed that in an effort to try to ensure that Mr Muir does not get enough votes by the deadline for his bid for a demutualisation resolution, Nationwide have been sending votes to his home address.

The minimum number required is 500, and Mr Muir has obtained nearer 700.  Whether the act is true or not and whether it was a sabotage attempt or not is unknown.

It is interesting to note that the political manoeuvering by both sides is still ongoing and is likely to continue.  The society have, we note, also increased their profile with a televsion campaign promoting the benefits of the society.  We have no axe to grind either way and wish both sides well.

It is you, the member of the society, who must decide which you prefer (assuming that the moves by Mr Muir and two others trying to get board appointments are successful as well as the numerous resolutions not being rejected on legal grounds as has happended in the past).

No doubt more news will follow before the annual general meeting on 25 July 2002.
