Compulsory Pensions On The Cards

Published / Last Updated on 17/10/2002

Since the introduction of Stakeholder pensions in April 2001 and the ever increasing 'savings gap', there has been more and more pressure on the Government to make people save in pensions.

The subject was no different at the Labour annual conference last week with the minister for work admitting that trade unions were applying the pressure to make pension savings compulsory.

Most organisations have different views on whether contributions should be compulsory from the employer or the employee but everyone agrees, something has to be done about the prospect of poverty in retirement.
