Unproductive Employees

Published / Last Updated on 10/04/2003

Workers spend an average of 3 hours per day doing tasks that are unproductive to their employers business, according to Learndirect.  According to the company, unproductive time costs businesses almost £160bn per year.  The main unproductive tasks included chasing colleagues for information, spending longer than necessary in meetings, waiting for people to arrive at meetings and surfing the internet.  Many of the people surveyed said they suffered frustration and stress at work and many people work over by 10 hours per week.

Our Tip:

Employees under stress tend to be absent from work more often, making them even more unproductive.  If you are an employer it is important for employees to feel confident enough to air their problems and stresses.
