Still Paying Into Equitable?

Published / Last Updated on 10/11/2002

Are you still paying contributions to Equitable Life? If so, you are not alone.

A research company, Industrial Relations Services recently conducted a survey and found that some company pension schemes had not told members to stop paying into Equitable, despite the uncertainty surrounding the insurance company.

Many of the pension schemes still allow members to pay contributions into Equitable's with profits fund.  The main problem is that the trustees of pension schemes do not want to mis-advise their members.  Instead of giving advice to move or stay with Equitable, many trustees have let matters continue unchanged.

We believe that pension scheme members should be made aware of the facts with Equitable Life and should be allowed to make informed decisions.  Pension scheme trustees should do this, even if they decide not to advise their members.  By having all of the facts in front of them, members can make their own decisions or take independent advice if they need to.
