Stakeholder Success?

Published / Last Updated on 17/11/2002

At the recent Saver Summit, Standard Life stamped over the Government's claims that stakeholder pensions had been a success.  Standard Life said that even though 42% of the stakeholder pension policies sold were within the Government's target earners, the number sold only represented 2% of Britons who do not have pensions.

Baroness Hollis, speaking for the Government said, "we have met our initial objectives to respond to existing pensioner poverty and to help those at risk of pensioner poverty in the future".  We still think the Government has a long way to go and radical change of retirement is needed.
