Retired Healthy Wealthy and Working

Published / Last Updated on 18/02/2003

The Age Positive campaign from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) conducted a survey recently into pensioners who were still working.

From the results of the survey it would appear that working past retirement age could be good for your health.  76% of men and 71% of women that had worked past their retirement age said that their health was either excellent or very good.   When pensioners that had not worked past retirement were asked the same question about their health, only 50% said it was excellent or very good.

Whilst the survey highlights a valid point, the fact that people stay healthier when working is because they are active in body and mind.   The danger at retirement is to stop and do nothing which can help reduce your state of heath.   Make sure you get a part-time job or have other, multiple, interests and hobbies that give you the will to get out of bed everyday!
