Pensions Simplification Unlikely To Improve Savings

Published / Last Updated on 26/08/2004

A survey by Scottish Equitable has found 84% of financial advisers think that the new pension simplification rules proposed for 2006 will have little impact on encouraging people to save more in pensions.

Our view

All we have to say to the Government is all that we have said for the last four years.

Education! Education! Education! Education!

The only way that people will learn about money and the need to save is to educate.  Therefore, it is too late for most of us as we have learned many bad habits.  However, the country's future, our children, these are the ones to educate as it is not too late.  I cannot beleive that children still come out of school knowing about Pythagorus but do not how how to write a cheque or how a mortgage works!  Finance education is key.
