Mum's The Word

Published / Last Updated on 24/01/2003

According to a recent survey by Britannia, children learn more about saving from their mother than from their father.  The amount of savings advice and encouragement also varies, depending where you live in the UK and how old your parents are.

Of the people surveyed by Britannia, 37% of fathers encouraged their children to save.  When it came to mothers the figure increased to 51%.  Mums who didn't work came out of the survey as more encouraging than mothers that did work did.

In terms of where you live in the country, people in the South of England appeared to talk less about savings to children than those in the North and Scotland.

The figures were also affected, depending on the age of parents.  Those under 45 were less likely to encourage their children to save whilst those over 45 were more likely.
