More On Pensions Compulsion

Published / Last Updated on 15/11/2002

According to a spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions, they will be considering the effects of making pensions compulsory.

A government poll revealed that almost 80% of respondents thought pensions should be compulsory and that employers should be made to contribute.  Almost 65% said that workers should be made to pay in.

The DWP appear to be surprised by the results and had assumed that people would see compulsory pensions as another form of tax.  If people did view compulsion as another tax they would certainly consider their votes at the next round of elections.  Obviously this is not what the current Government want.
