Life Expectancy Increases

Published / Last Updated on 05/06/2002

A recent jubilee report produced by Norwich Union has shown that life expectancy for retired women has increased by 5 years since the Queen's coronation.  Male life expectancy has also increased and they are both continuing to do so.

The report from Norwich Union highlights major change afoot for the UK insurance industry with particular emphasis on pension providers having to pay annuities to retirees for longer. They say that in 20 years time people could be living on retirement income for 30 to 40 years which will take considerable financial commitment when working.
