For those of you who can't be bothered to move your mortgage or bank accounts to ones offering better rates - it could be costing you, on average, £200 a year. Take most people together and it mounts up to between £4 and £5billion.
The survey conducted by Zurich Bank says that most of the lost money comes from people putting their money in low interest High Street banks. Even if people are unhappy with their banks they don't seem to change.
Paying for purchases and utilities by direct debit would also save people more money. The figures are amazing on mortgages - around 70% of people have not looked around to see if they can get cheaper rates. Some know they can but don't bother doing anything about it.
