Plans to Extend Flexible Working

Published / Last Updated on 07/12/2007

Government

The Government has announced plans to extend flexible working rights to parents with children under 9, 12 or 17.  The current flexible working rights only apply to parents with children under the age of 6.

The Trades Union Congress said: “being able to work flexibly would be a real bonus to parents with children at schools that have no breakfast or after school clubs and others would jump at the chance to alter hours so they can spend more time with their children during school holidays”.

Our view

An employer's view, this is great news, not.  How can this be good for employers trying to run a business.  "Please, please come to work but only when you really feel like it".
