Flexible Retirement Help For Employers

Published / Last Updated on 13/11/2007

Guidelines have been published from the Department of Work and Pensions to help employers and trustees tackle the impact of flexible retirement with the possibility of offering further exemptions to employers.

At the moment employers are unsure of how to operate the proposed changes and so are working very cautiously to avoid any potential court cases, which could be very costly.  Some of the actions that would be included are levelling down or removing benefits entirely, not allowing people to take benefits and continue to work.

Our view

Legislation is being driven from the European Union and so guidance from the Department of Work and Pensions may not help employers avoid court.  The consultation runs until 7 December 2007.  More help please.
