Women State Pension Age Liberal Vote Grab

Published / Last Updated on 27/09/2019

The Liberal Democrat Party has agreed to compensate women born in the 1950’s that have been affected by the rise in the state pension age should they get into power.

The Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) and Backto60 claimed the changes were unfair and are fighting for compensation.

The Liberal Democrats have also agreed to keeping the triple lock state pension, which ensures annual levels rise in accordance with rate of inflation, average earnings, or 2.5% whichever is the highest rate.

Cynical vote grab in our opinion.  We understand the argument that women who expected their state pension at age 60 and then being pushed back to 65 them 66, 67 et al. We have known about these changes for 20+ years so there is little excuse to not be prepared.  Indeed, in this age of sex equality, what about men?  Men have always had to wait longer and do not live as long, so will never draw the same amount in state pension benefits as women.  Get equality at work and pay rights and the state pension age argument will disappear.
