If you haven't already sent in your tax return, today is your last chance to miss the automatic £100 fine.
If you haven't returned your form because you are unsure of something, ring the Inland Revenue free advice service on 0845 9000 444. The quicker you get the return to them, the less likely you are to be fined.
As long as your return is with the Inland Revenue before the 1st February 2002 you will escape the £100 fixed penalty fine.
Another key date is the 28th February 2002. If you were due to make a payment to the Inland Revenue by 31st January 2002 and haven't, a 5% surcharge will automatically be slapped on top of your overdue bill.
