Golden Property Jubilee _ 5400% In 50 Years

Published / Last Updated on 10/06/2002

If you had bought your home 50 years you would have seen an increase in value of over 54 times its value since the coronation.

Reasearch released by Nationwide indicated that the average house price in 1952 was £1,890 and this has now increased to £102,886 in 2002.

Our view

With lower mortgage rates, lower inflation and increased wealth and prosperity, we believe that this trend will continue over the longer term.  This makes property an ideal longer term investment.

However, for the shorter term we have already urged caution as slow down is expected.  Don't borrow too much.
