The white paper on the Turner Report is likely to be delayed beyond the Department for Work and Pensions deadline in the spring. It is now expected to be published after June this year, due to the volume and detail that the responses to the report requires. Interested parties had until recently to submit responses to the pensions commission report. These responses have been divided on some of the main issues highlighted, including the National Pensions Savings Scheme.
Consumer groups have backed the plans, although there have been submissions from the pensions industry that the government run scheme would not be best suited to deliver pension reform.
Our view
The National Pensions Savings Scheme will no doubt form a major part of the paper. Expect some fireworks over the next few months as the debate rages on a compulsory pension scheme forcing us all the save.
