Child benefit threshold increased to £50,000

The Chancellor confirmed in his budget speech today that limit at which a family will start to restrict child benefit will increase to £50,000 salary.

  • Earn below £50,000 - full child benefit payable
  • Earn £50,000 - £60,000 - will lose 1% of benefit for every £100 earned over £50,000
  • Earn £60,000 - Nil child benefit

Under the old proposals if you earned £42,475 you would lose child benefit but a couple each earning £40,000 would keep the benefit.
Child benefit currently £20.30 a week for eldest child and £13.40 a week for each subsequent child.
