Benefits Paid To Post Office Card Accounts End in 30 Days

Thousands of benefit claimants in the UK face losing access to benefits in just 30 days when HMRC stop making paymemts to Post Office card accounts.

HMRC and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has been planning the change for sometime as their contract with the Post Office for no cost bank accounts comes to an end.

So far, neary 140,000 have opended new accounts bank elsewhere to enable benefits payments to continue but nearly 10,000 claimants still have not and their benefits will not able to be paid.

Comment

The Post Office had already extended the deadline but this is now coming to an end on 05/04/2022.  If you have not taken action, you need to:

  • Open an acount with an alternative bank, building society or credit union
  • Notify HMRC of the change

If you do not, your benefits will not stop but temporarilly suspended until you open a suitable account.
