According to figures provided by the private hospital sector, more and more Scottish residents are paying for treatment, as the waiting list on the NHS is too long.
A spokesperson for BUPA agreed that they had experienced an increase in self-funded applications for treatments, which could mean expansion of some of their hospitals.
Our view
More and more people are choosing not to wait for treatment on the NHS and are paying for it privately. This is not limited to Scotland.
Money is generally more freely available and the benefit of having private medical insurance really gives people a choice.
