The difference between the richest and the poorest families in the United Kingdom is still increasing. Figures released by the Office for National Statistics indicated that income after tax for the poorest 10 per cent of the population is now £11,374 per year.
This compares to the richest 10 per cent whose income had increased to £60,908. However, once taxes and benefits have been taken into consideration, the wealthiest bring home £49,300 per household, and the poorest £13,500 per household.
Our view
You will always have those who have and those who have not. Whether we like it or not, there are those that work hard, there are those that born to wealth, there are those that cannot work due to illness and there are those that do not wish to work. There will always be a wealth gap.
