The end of a four-year battle has finally arrived. Negotiations were taking place between National Health Service (NHS) Employers and trade unions regarding changes to the existing pension arrangements and the introduction of a proposed scheme in April 2008.
An agreement has been reached which would see current employees retain their retirement age of 60 and keep the final salary scheme and see staff joining the new scheme working till age 65 and retaining a final salary status.
Our view
This appears to be a very sensible and amicable settlement. Employees are protected as well as the future of the pension scheme.
