No Choice _ Postponing Retirement

Published / Last Updated on 31/10/2007

More people are discovering that although they would like to retire, they have to postpone it, as they just cannot afford to retire.

Scottish Widows has found that 34 per cent – 1.5million people, aged over 55 are putting off retirement, due to financial circumstances.

The over 55’s can be split into two groups, those who have sufficient pensions and those who don’t.  Those that don’t are finding that they have to work longer just to make ends meet.

Our view

Financial security is becoming more of a priority than our health.  The reality is that we all need to plan for our retirement and save from our early twenties.
