Unemployment Falls to 2.5m

Unemployment Falls to 2.5m.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal that unemployment in the UK has fallen at December to 2.5m people.

This was only a marginal fall of just 14,000 and there are now 29.7m workers.

Our view
Seasonal work at Christmas has clearly skewed the figures slightly as part-time workers increased.

There are now 1.50 million claiming Employment Support Allowance.

But the pleasing part is that there are 580,000 more people employed than there was in December 2011.

That said, average pay is falling which means house prices have also fallen.

We expect this trend to continue, but we believe the government will press the Bank of England to release more money, in short print money, to stimulate the economy further.
