HMRC Tax Dodger Name Shame List Published.
HMRC has ‘upped the ante’ with tax evaders and now started to publish individual names of people they have found to be deliberately avoiding tax.
Much has been made over recent weeks of the need to keep things confidential or the public demand to release names of cuplrits, both large companies and the public.
The list includes a coach operator, green grocer, hairdresser, property developers, wine sellers and many more.
The name and shame tax list was based upon people that had not paid more than £25,000 in tax and reaches a landmark in HMRC as well as citing high profile brand names, also now citing small business owners and other members of the public.
Fines range from low thousands to hundreds of thousands of pounds.
HMRC is recruiting an additional 2,000 tax inspectors with view to stamping out tax evasion.
The larger team will enable HMRC to be much more vigorous in its investigation of many more potential suspects.
HMRC already has pilot schemes where self employed in some regions have their tax returns cross checked with their credit card and bank account spending.
