Standard Life is to scrutinise its procedures and change its underwriting processes concerning protection applications. In-house analysis of their online protection processes showed that a number of cases were being referred for specialist further medical information on the basis of the applicants occupation, when a more accurate measure would be to refer cases on the basis of activities taken during the course of an occupation.
The changes also include the implementation of the new questions on HIV risk, which was introduced by the Association of British Insurers earlier this year, as well as changes to some of the medical questions to receive better information before making underwriting decisions.
