Experts are claiming that the new changes in employment law are more beneficial to the employers, rather than the work force. It enables employers to refuse applications for people to work beyond age 65.
Employers can give six months notice if they wish employees to retire by age 65, helping them to avoid costly benefit packages. However, the delay in legislation regarding pensions is causing confusion for some employers. If they fail to adjust the structure of existing benefits they could be at risk of claims for age discrimination.
Our view
Ultimately, this will be resolved and employees rights to work and benefits beyond 65 will be established.
