A report in an industry newspaper has highlighted that despite a city councils' warning that they are determined to prosecute those who fail to meet health and safety standards, new laws that will force landlords to licence houses with multiple tenants are not expected to deter the buy-to-let market.
Leeds City Council issued the warning after successfully prosecuted a landlord who put tenants at risk through a faulty fire-detection system and damaged fire doors. The council have said that they would continue to take action against irresponsible landlords when the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister introduces mandatory licensing in houses of multiple occupation in October.
