The Association for Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) has been defending the use of Home Information Packs (HIPs) and claim that those who have criticised them are scaremongering and deliberately misleading the public. It has been claimed that the home information packs will cost £1,000, when in fact the cost will be between £300 and £500.
AHIPP has also had to defend claims that there will not be enough energy assessors by 1 June, when the packs come into force. There are currently over 3,000 domestic energy assessors in training and they will able to meet the requirements.
Our view
In the long term, HIPs will be good for the property market. It will speed up the home purchase process and will reduce the number of failed deals.
