A survey has found that 64% of people would have trouble accessing their savings in an emergency, because of branch locations and withdrawal limits.
The study, by National Savings and Investments, has found that the top five issues hindering people getting to their money include having to go to a branch, limits on withdrawal amounts, an excess amount of red tape, time restrictions on accessing funds, and the inability to contact a provider outside of normal working hours.
The poll found that those aged between 25 and 34 were most likely to dip into their savings accounts, while those aged under 25 and over 65 were less likely to use their savings in an emergency.
Our view
Most people carry account debit cards of some sort so we really do not see this as an issue.
