Financial Ombudsman Fraud

Published / Last Updated on 05/04/2011

Financial Ombudsman Fraud.

The Financial Ombudsman Service has warned people that fraudsters are currently sending out emails and letters claiming to be from the ombudsman.  The letters and emails may contain copies of the FOS logo and some are asking for money or personal information such as bank account details, copies of your passport or payslips.

The FOS has warned people to check for signs that the correspondence may not be genuine, such as an overseas phone number or mobile, an unlikely looking email address such as a gmail account or hotmail, or a foreign PO Box number.

They have also advised people never to respond to a message that appears suspicious and never provide any personal details and to report a suspicious email or letter by calling the FOS on 0300 123 9 123.
