If you are dismissed from your job because your employer needs to reduce their staff numbers or close down completely, this is known as redundancy.  

You may be offered redundancy if your employer is moving to a new location and because of the distance, you could not reasonably be expected to travel.  

Once you have been made redundant, you will no longer work for your employer and will become unemployed.
