Energy Efficient Homes Proving More Popular

Published / Last Updated on 12/03/2006

The Yorkshire Bank believes that one in three first time buyers prefer energy efficient homes.

Research by the bank has found that one in three first time buyers and one in four existing homeowners would not even consider a house that was not energy efficient and lacked basics such as double glazing and cavity wall insulation.  One in six first time buyers say that they would prefer a house heated by electricity, as they believe gas is much more expensive.

Figures from Energywatch, the independent gas and electricity consumer watchdog, show that since 2003, electricity prices have risen by more than 30% and gas by 40%!  It has recently been reported that British Gas is about to increase prices by a further 25%.

People are becoming more aware of the environment.   This may prove a major selling feature of your home in the future, particulary when the new Home Information Packs become a requirement when selling your home.   When they become a requirement, you will be required to have an energy efficiency rating for your home.
