EDF Energy Ordered to pay 3m.

EDF Energy have been told to pay £3m to vuanerable customers after an investigation by energy regulator Ofgem found failings, which led to them breaching the rules for handling complaints.

The investigation found that following an introduction of new IT systems in 2011 at EDF the regulator saw a 30% rise in complaints about the firm. The energy supplier was found not to have the correct systems to properly receive, record and process customer complaints.

This means that now all 6 of the major energy suppliers have had to pay for similar issues.

The news has come at the same time that Ofgem has announced a full investigation into the energy market in an attempt to rebuild customer trust. The investigation is expected to take around 18 months.

Ofgem has said that EDF took the issue very seriously and quickly took action to deal with any problems and to help reduce the effect on customers, the energy firm has since publicly apologised.
