Retail Figures Less than Expected.

Retail sale rose 2.9% in July, up 0.1% from June. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released its statistical figures for retail and shows that retail sales growth was not as strong as many experts were expecting. Many analysts expected the month on month rise to be 0.4%.

The ONS has said that the lack of growth was due to non-store sales and fuel. A continuing price war on the high street was seen too, prices in many high street stores fell 0.9% when compared with the same point last year after remaining level in June.

The amount of money spent shopping online increased by 11.2% in July compared with last year, but decreased by 1.9% compared with June.
