A report by a leading Professional Connections consultant has found that less than 1% of divorces are including provision for the sharing of or splitting of pension rights on divorce. This means that divorcing parties, and particularly the ones who do not have a pension, or indeed only a small one, when compared to their former partners may retire in poverty for the sake of a few extra pounds today.
Our view:
This is probably happening because legal advisers are not sure about pensions sharing on divorce and indeed, they are not necessarily qualified to offer advice on the pension fund.
