Data Protection Warning

Published / Last Updated on 18/07/2004

The Government has been sent a formal notice by the European Commission for apparently failing to treat the processing of personal data seriously enough.  Europe believes that we are not complying with the European Data Protection Directive.

The European Commission has complained that the UK may not be using the right amount of care when transferring data out of the EU to other countries. If the UK response is deemed by Europe as not satisfactory within a two-month period, we could be dragged off to the European Court of Justice.

Our View

The word 'directive' is becoming increasingly painful, for everyone in the UK.  Whilst there are rules to be stuck to, all of the red tape that surrounds the EU is laughable.

Could the ever-increasing costs of Europe not be spent better developing the UK?

What about State pensions and health?  Maybe we should tackle Europe on the issues and get some of our money back.
